a direct object recieves the action and the indirect object is to who or for whom which the object is talking about(:^)) Huh?

a direct object is when u put your verb and subject together and ask what or whom and your indirect object is when u put your verb, subject, and your direct object togther and ask what or whom to get your indirect object.

a direct object receives the action directly from the doer.
an indirect object is to whom or for whom the action was done.

She gave us new seats.  (She is the subject, gave is the verb) She gave what? seats (direct object) To whom did she give seats (us: indirect object)

one of them answering ur question is mistaken! when the verb verb give is preceded by the preposition, both words belong to the same category. That is to say,the prepositional phrase is the indirect object and the word(give) is the object of preposition if  ur one concern is to specify the compement :d:d:d lingli

(:)) SmileTransitive verbs generally take two objects -- a direct object and an indirect object.  For example,  John gave Jeff his pen.  Both Jeff and his pen are objects of the verb 'gave'.

If one asks the question John gave What or Whom?  We get the answer:  What -- a pen, Whom -- Jeff.  The answer towhat gives us the direct object   and the answer to Whom gives us the indirect object.
