He recalled his dissipated youth spent in nightclubs and bars.

What does `dissipated youth' mean in this sentence?

I know dissipate = gradually disappear

But this one does not fit in my sentence.

Please help me.

Dissipated youth would make sense here.  It means he wasted his youth.  If you prefer you could say "misspent youth".

  It also means "to squander, to waste, to use up needlessly".
