hi julielai,

 where are you from?

Hi Kekes,

I’m a doctor and work in a hospital. More than ten years. I’m not rich, but not poor, too. When I started to study medicine I didn’t have idea what exactly it is. Now I know. It’s the hours after your patient died, the happiness in the patient’s eyes when he/she kisses your hand to thank, the hope of someone who entrust you his/her life, also long night hours to wait things go better or just for a next patient, discussions and argues with colleagues…am I missing something? The salary – of course is one of the most important things to live. In my country salaries may be are lower than in yours. We should fight to be given more money and to work in a better circumstances. I’d like to give you advice. I’m sure you are very intelligent and clever young man. Graduate, then work medicine for a couple of years. If you feel that medicine is your life – make everything to be paid well, but working real medicine. If not – just leave it.

But it’s worth to try.

Hi all,

doctor is not only a profession, it is a kind of philosophy. Being a doctor is my live!
You will have to help people, even when you get no money, when you´re in danger to catch an infection or when telephon rings at 1 am. You will get much more of radiation than the average and you are always in danger to get judged, because you will have to do things, which are malicious injuries without agreement or wrong documentation. Do not become a doctor, when you are not convinced to do the right - you will regret it.

I agree with you,it's really a kind of philosophy. Tobe a doctor, I'm very surprise when hearing someone thinks this profession could make us rich. As you see, it's very difficult to attend Medicine university in my country. You should be better than100 others students. It means ten thousand students take enter examination, ,only one hundred students can follow this career. However, it's only a honour . Doctor doesn't have a good salary. Let's imagine! Before we join in WTO, our salary is under 50 dollars per month. And now, there is a change, in the prelude to mondialization Smile [:)]  in order to purchase some means of media with  cheaper price, our salary increases, approximately 100 dollars per month while those who work in the field of economic area, may gain a thousand dollars  Some doctors in a big city could have their Doctor's office to ameliorate their life, if people's standard of living  around them is high. But we have our Hippocrate oath when we become qualified. We sworn to observe the medical code of ethical and professional behavior. In our country, we usually promise to be a new socialist person, whole- hearted for our people while in  some other countries, doctors swear  if they don't give whole -hearted help to their patient, to cure them of disease, to save their life, they will have a miserable life and suffer great misfortune.
There are twoFrench practitioners who registered for voluntary work in our health center. The husband is a famous surgeon while his spouse is a good anaesthetist. We were very happy because it's a good condition for us to practise our profession and it's also a rare occasion to practise languages such as French and English. However, our director told us that we couldn't give our guesses and at the same time our teacher, a relative standard of living in our "dry field, salty water". Wedidn't dare to let them live in a common-room, eat rice at canteen twice a day. We couldn't afford them by paying accomodation, meals and some entertainment fees on holiday.  At the end, we should refuse their help with regret ( because of our limited fund) though they didn't ask us to pay anything for their salary. How glorious is our profession! Especially, in a developed country with high standard of living such as MSF, a voluntary heath organisation, they go everywhere  to cure people  of disease  without payment.

I' m a young doctor from Poland , and I have the same opinion about the doctor profession as you have. In Poland doctors income is much lower then people in other professions. Our goverment doesn't see the problem  that doctors looking for a job abroad, and they leaving Poland to live a better live. Now we have lack of doctors. I 'm making now a specialization and earn 250 euro per month- so it's raely sad . People who are studing medicine are going to leave our country. Old doctors in Poland have more money , but it's still not enought for the work they doing. They 're working for 10-12 h per day , they spend nights in hospital, they're working about 100 hours a week , and thanks this they have money , but they don't have time for familly , for hobbys , for rest.... Doctors in Poland are the group of society that have one of the lowest income , but I hope it'll change . We are going to strike!!!!

Here in our country it is not a lucrative job to become a doctor. I think most doctor could earn a lot of money if they are into beauty or skin dermatologist or if they are into skin care. Most of the people here in our place do like to visit dermatologist for some lipo session or if they like to have some breast augmentation and also if they like to add some parts of there body.

Hi, Kekes
It's strange you ask such a question in such an international English-studying forums. The situations vary so much in different countries in this world as I know to work as a doctor.  And it's so general a question. Undoutedly, some doctors are highly-paid in China, it depends on what kind of hospital you're working in, what your specialty is, and if you can have many patients, among many other things. In my opinion, it's really a good profession considering the pay and the risks and hard work involved.
