What does "Chicks dig scars" mean. (Please delete it is profanity)

hi there,

I came across this phrase at the end of the movie "Live Free or Die Hard", when John McClane talked to Mathew in the last scene. Does it mean "Girls like men with scars"? Why "dig" here?

No problem:  "dig" is slang for "like".
