i have been reading news from the BBC website. There is one sentence which is "Opponents of abstinence education say the approach ignores the fact"

Here, i did not get the meaning of the "Opponents of abstinence ".

please help me. I'm very beginner for englihs language. advance thanks

It's opponents of 'abstinence education'. This is an approach to sex education that teaches that you shouldn't have sex before marriage. It tends to avoid giving much information on contraception, avoidance of disease etc.

So they are talking about people who oppose (don't agree with) this approach.
