Dear Teachers,

1. He's very nice but she has only known him three weeks.

- I think "..........for three weeks" is better, right?

2. Is "they're short of money" the same meaning as "they are broke"?

3. Is "don't be afraid!" the same meaning as "don't panic!"?

4. What is your favorite kind of music?

- Can I say "What is your favorite music?"?

Thanks very much to Teachers,

 Stevenukd.

1. Hm, ...
"known him for three weeks"
"known him three weeks"
give about the same number of hits at Yahoo
I prefer the version with for, but ...

2. Short of money is something temporary
broke is much more serious (penniless, bankrupt)
but they probably overlap in some cases

3. Panic is a more intense fear, it's closer to terror and fright.

1. He's very nice but she has only known him three weeks.

- I think "..........for three weeks" is better, right?  Only slightly.  Both are fine.

2. Is "they're short of money" the same meaning as "they are broke"?  They're very similar, but broke is worse.

3. Is "don't be afraid!" the same meaning as "don't panic!"?  No, but they are similar.  You say the first if there is something that might be frightening.  You say the second if there is something that might cause panic.  Being afraid is often a motionless phenomenon.  Being in a panic is often characterized by frenetic activity.

4. What is your favorite kind of music?

- Can I say "What is your favorite music?"?  Yes, but "kind of music" is better.
