In the old englishforums.com,  I used to be able to 'pin down' the search result; I could find out exactly what I was looking for, by entering the key phrase and my name in the search function of the database.

Maybe I'm not doing it right, but in the new system, I cannot find out what I'm looking for; after entering the key phrase and my name in the search function, I come up with too many search results which only have to do with my name.

Could somebody tell me how I pin down the search result here?

I had the same experience and finally gave up on using it.

If you enter two qualifiers (a user and a subject) each result should meet both qualifications.  But that ain't what happens.

It will first give you every post relating to the subject, and then it will give you every post written by the user.  Useless.

Maybe that's what they call an advanced search. (you have to specify (A + B)  or   (A, then B))

Useless, indeed.

Personally, the only good thing about the new englishforums.com is its visual beauty. Other than that, the old version was a lot better. I do miss the old version...

I've tried to do some searches, and it doesn't seem to work as "advertised". The syntax is pretty easy to understand, but it doesn't behave the way it is supposed to. Maybe I did something wrong, but... maybe an admin might be able to tell you something more.

If you don't have a sense of humor already, it's about time you buy one.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that.  (I always thought they looked about the same.)

The thing I've loved about it from day one is that it completely cured my main gripe about the old version.  The lists are updated instantaneously.  I'm speaking of My Discussions, Unanswered, Active, etc.  I used to imagine we had to wait for Hitchhiker to come to work and update all the lists by hand.  At certain times of the day it could take five or six hours for a post to be taken off the unanswered list.  Now, as I say, it's instantaneous.  Everything immediately appears and disappears exactly as it should, and this has been consistently true from the inception.  Bravo on that!
