Hello everyone,

This is a part of an article on baseball games.

I don't understand the meaning of "down three games to one in the series" exactly.

My questions are about the accurate meanings of "three games to one" and "in the series".

If you have any idea, would you care to comment some?

Here are the sentence:

After being down three games to one in the series, they’ve come back to win three straight games and the championship.

After being down three games to one in the series, they’ve come back to win three straight games and the championship. = After they were losing 1:3 in the play-off series, they’ve come back to win three straight games and the championship.

Play-off in every competition (NHL, NBA...) consists of set of game series between two teams. One series is being played until one team achieve usually 4 wins. This number depends on the competition. For example, Pittsburgh Penguins won the first two games in the play-off series against Flyers...= Pens are leading two games to nothing/none..
