I would say, "What do dress shoes have to do with basketball?"

OR  "Do you think dress shoes have something/anything to do with basketball?"

Shouldn't do be plural (does) since dress shoes is plural?

Aha!  Gotcha!    They do. (plural)   It does.  (singular)

Just because it has an "s" on it doesn't mean it's plural.

Yeh, that was an accident...but that 's' is actually the way I tell apart singular form from plural form...because I memorized s to stand for singular...

dress shoes is plural so it should've been do...

"s" happens!
