Hmm. You can certainly drop hints, but I don't think you can "drop you a hint." In that case, you simply gave me a hint. (At least, that's what sound natural to me.)

I've been dropping hints all month that I'd like a baby elephant for Christmas.

I gave you a hint about where we were going for dinner, but you didn't get it.

My reading is the same as GG's: dropping hints it's like spreading them everywhere, not giving them to someone.

EDIT: made some searches, there are people using "drop you a hint," thus it may be useable, but it's not common.

In this context you should say "I dropped the hint, but you didn't get it".
