Can someone please help me understand the difference between DURESS and COERCION. I know their meaning but I need to be very clear with each word so I can fully understand it and be able to apply it to my vocabulary.

Thank you.

with DURESS I'm restricted from doing something by law or force. COERCION means that I'm force to act or make a choice.

Is that correct?

 Nearly. Not quite.

Duress = the threats used to force a person to do something: They only agreed to the action under duress.

To coerce someone means to persuade someone forcefully to do something which they are unwilling to do, so coercion is persuasion by means of force of some kind: They were coerced into agreeing to commit the crime.

Thank you. That's very clear. Smile
