It seems I'm having the same problem as Cool Breeze.
I do receive email notifications from threads I participated in from (say) the game forums, or the vocabulary one. But I don't receive any from threads I participated in, if they belong to the general grammar forum.

Mine too, though I thought it "was gone like a cool breeze". And I _am_ email-notified of this thread.

The notifications work fine from this thread for me as well. But not from the Audio  -  Pronunciation and Basic Grammar forums. I think the idiom is: ... was gone like a wild goose in winter. If that isn't right, the Johnny Cash has got it all wrong in his song:

"I'll be gone like wild goose in winter,

then you'll understand your man."Smile

- Johnny Cash, Understand Your Man

Cheers

Well, I quoted Chuck Berry:

«Now you can't catch me, baby you can't catch me
'Cause if you get too close, you know I'm gone like a cool breeze»

Worst of all, I am not receiving e-mails from the General English Grammar questions forum.

EDIT: This post appeared right away, without any delay...

I see. In that case both idioms must be correct. I've got a funny feeling there is the odd native who thinks they sound odd anyway. Beer

I also encounter the same problem. No emails from posters are found in my mailbox.
