Mine too, though I thought it "was gone like a cool breeze". And I _am_ email-notified of this thread.

The notifications work fine from this thread for me as well. But not from the Audio  -  Pronunciation and Basic Grammar forums. I think the idiom is: ... was gone like a wild goose in winter. If that isn't right, the Johnny Cash has got it all wrong in his song:

"I'll be gone like wild goose in winter,

then you'll understand your man."

Well, I quoted Chuck Berry:

«Now you can't catch me, baby you can't catch me
'Cause if you get too close, you know I'm gone like a cool breeze»

I see. In that case both idioms must be correct. I've got a funny feeling there is the odd native who thinks they sound odd anyway.
