Fascinating! Over 200 replies, of which I suspect more than 2% who could be bothered to do this actually got it right.

What's interesting is not the puzzle itself, which doesn't seem, by all accounts, to be that hard, but that people cannot resist doing it. As soon as someone hears the challenge "only 2% of the world's population can do this," there is a compulsion to prove that YOU are one of those people!

Can anyone point to any evidence to support the notion that this actually was created by Einstein, and that the 2% figure has any validity? Methinks it says more about the ego of the average person that so many want to believe they are "the top 2%."

My take is that the top 1% just wouldn't waste the time doing it, knowing it is just pandering to fragile egos.

I didn't try it Wink [;)]

If life wasn't so pointless and absurd, I would take it more seriously

Guys,
when Einstein said only 2% will do it.
he meant to solve it that way [link]
not by trying logical trial and error.

That wasnt too hard so I doubt only 2% of the population can do it. Maybe he was thinking with a time restiction as pretty much everyone I know could do that given enough time.

Hi,

The german has the pet fish.

Try mapping out your answers this way... Using an excel spreadsheet, type in column A1, A2 etc. the following titles: nationality, color, drink, cigar and pet.  Each statement will use one column.  Highlight each row a different color (this will help with putting together the final puzzle) and print with gridlines.  Now you can cut your columns out leaving a space for each empty cell.

Good luck

stéphanie.

norweigan, yellow, water, dunhill, cat

dane, blue, tea, blend, horse

britt, red, milk, pall mall, bird

german, green, coffee, prince, fish

swede, white, beer, blue cigard, dog.
