I guess there's more than one way to invert something.

Assume the normal arrangement is for the subject to come first and the verb to come sometime later.  To invert this order would be to reverse it (not place it upside down).

I have never in my life been so scared.

Never in my life have I been so scared.

That's not a very good example, because the subject "I" is mixed into the verb "have been."

The most common form of inversion is used to differentiate a question from a statement.

Questions:

Could I have a hamburger?

Would he like one?

Statements:

I could have a hamburger.

He would like one.
