I have been learning English with a lot of software and Rosetta Stone was my first one. In 2000 I used to like it but I don't anymore and the reason is simple, it is not good enough and it is a very bad value for money but I wouldn't use it for free. If you are practising with software, there are certain problems like recording/voice recognitiation and communication. In order to make progress you need  a good voice recognitiation. I am a big fan of digital publishing but the software isn't cheap.

A futher disadvantage of Rosetta Stone is the concept. For a child it may be useful but not for an adult. For some languages like Japanese it is OK but not for English and French. In English you need to hear voices a lof and not to look at pictures! I gained a lot of experience with films while using subtitles. Your ears need the practise, believe me. At the moment I have been learning French with digital pulblishing again and I am very satisfied. After four months I am able to understand a lot and speek and not a beginner any more.

If you have specific questions go ahead and let me know.

Is it me or is it the universe? It could be the universe but I am not sure thus I have been still wondering and drinking tea. However, the tea is getting cold.

Hi Kathrin,

I am going to learn to speak French, and the learning software I will choose is Rosetta Stone. Hoever, look at your post, I think that you're right.

So, can you recommend us some others.

Thanks.

oh, by the way i see that you had been learning several softwares. Have you used "Learn to speak English 8.1"? if yes, what's your idea about it?

Hi,

I have experience with the following programms, available on the German market:

1) Rosetta Stone
2) Tell me more
3) English- Digital Publishing
4) English perfect - Cornersen.

My favourite is Nr. 3 for many reasons, the according quality is very good, which is not the case for Nr. 4. At all it is very good value for money, the English programm cost 99 € and you should use it for 5 years. The Business English programm cost again 99 €. The Business Programm is according to the magazine spotlight not the best one, more mediocre. But the English course is quite good. I have been learning both English and French with Digital Publishing and have been having a lot of fun because of the tutors. The audio books are very good, too. You can read and read it on the CD and read it on computer and they are available from A1 to B2 level.

Best wishes,

Kathrin
