Ahem...back to the original question.(;)) Wink

Something came to mind when I woke up at 2:00 this morning.  When not knowing exactly what to do in a situation, we sometimes say that we are "like a fish out of water".  Does this come close?

Yes, it is. Often as "I haven't got the foggiest" (with the "idea" part understood).
