I have an example of metaphor from the East about the purity. In the West, diamant is the symbol of purity but in Orient, it's the lotus. But I'm not sure.could you tell me it's  really a metsphor this kind of folksong:

Nothing is more besutiful thsn the lotus in t he pond

Green leaves, white flowers snd an added yellow pollen

Yellow pollen,white flowers, green leaves

Is next to the mud but doesn't smell this odour.

Wow, it sounds like you and I are in the same class. I also have to write 5 metaphors using examples from my life. I don't know where to start.

A metaphor is "a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them" (Websters)

if you read the whole thread, you will find definitions and metaphors.

This project sucks.     (That's a metaphor the project does not really suck)

My life has been a sea of troubles.

School life was a breeze.

My father is a rock.

My mother is an angel.

These are very simple examples you could probably do better, but you get the idea.

Always remember:-

Keep your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone, and your eye on the ball.

(Now try to work like that)

"How infinite is the debt owed to metaphors by politicians who want to speak strongly but are not sure what they are going to say."

Winston Churchill.
