I'm trying to write a job cover letter and need the know which is is the better to use:

I am a experieced [job title] with in excess of 12 years experience............

I'm an experienced [job title] with in excess of 12 years experience....

The spoken english I use is always the latter!

It's "an experienced", since "experienced" begins with a vowel sound.

I would replace "in excess of" with "over 12 years..."
