If they exist, are they more intelligent than us?

Considering probabilities, it is almost certain the existence of extraterrestrial life. In fact, the probabilities of finding intelligent extraterrestrials is also very high. The important questions would be... ¿where in the universe?
As far as I know, this fact is not opposed to the Christianism. I understand there can be some Catholic explanations of this matter, however the rest of christians who are not Catholic may have different opinions, even between them.

The length of time that has been available for intelligent life to develop elsewhere is the same as the length of time that has been available on Earth.

To assess the probability of its existence elsewhere, therefore, we must first be able to answer the question: has intelligent life developed rapidly, on Earth? Or has it been a long and difficult process, with many hiccups?

If the former, there's much less chance of finding intelligent life elsewhere. We are ahead of the pack.

If the latter, there's much more chance – unless we assume that it must by its nature be a long and difficult process.

But we won't know either way till we have more data...i.e. till we've found other life forms!

But, as is wonderfully presented in Hawking's 'A Brief History of Time', time is relative. Therefore, I don't think time is a factor in the issue of the extra-terrestrial. Also, who's to say they don't exist outside of our universe? In truth, this is just and un-answerable question on which humanity will always ponder...

...but it's fun, isn't it? Wink [;)]

Humm, I think not necessarily. The conditions for life maybe have appeared before in an unknown and distant planet than on Earth. And even if we suppose this asumption is true, there are too many planets out there which probably are similar to our planet.

Hmmm...But perhaps we can take <since the beginning of the universe> as a constant for all life forms in our universe?
