Hello,

Would someone tell me the meaning of this sentence?

I couldn't find the expression "face over" im my dictionaries.

"The inscriptions are all on some kind of limestone, facing over a rougher limestone core."

Thank you,

The comma is misplaced.  Remove it.  "facing" is a noun.  It means the substance found on the face (surface) of something.

The inscriptions are all (written) on some kind of facing (=surface) made of limestone (which is located) over (=on the top of) a rougher core (also) made of limestone.
