In the movie trilogy "Back to the Future," the time-travel machine was indeed an altered model of the sports care, the Delauren.
So when she looked at whatever it was she had to do to get back to Earth, she was suprised and said "That's my [thing that will take me through time and space to get where I want to go]?" Although in Back to the Future, it did NOT travel through space - only time. That was in fact very key to some of the plot points.
In the game show "Let's Make a Deal," the person playing would be shown something. They knew what they could win. But they would have a chance to trade it for "whatever was behind door #2" - which they could not see. Sometimes (maybe always? it was a long time ago) there was also a door #3. So you might have something of a little value - maybe a very nice watch, and have the chance to trade for something unknown. Behind door #2 might be a pair of socks, or it might be a new car. You never knew. So if someone has something that's okay, but not great, they may be looking for a better deal. I don't remember the context of that line in that episode any longer, but when I saw it, I thought you'd ask about it.
I've now seen 3 episodes, and I'm struck by just how artificial the dialogue is. In real life, no one says nearly the number of cute things and the references to American pop culture as these characters do.
So who is the fellow whose mother came back to kill him to make him stronger who is now going around murdering others and what was Chloe to him?
