Dear Sirs,
I would like to apply for the Aberystwyth University , Wales , UK for the Theatre, Film and Television Studies in September, 2008. I have chosen film and television studies as the most preferable program and the following contains the reasons for that decision.
First of all, at this moment I am studying at the New Bulgarian University , Sofia , Bulgaria , film and television studies and this is my first year. I am very inspirated and motivated to continue studying in this area, because I have very strong interests in all of the arts, especially in visual arts and theatre. I like the way the cinema represent the life because for me it’s an art that contains all the other arts in it – theatre, fine arts, music, literature, photography and a lot of psychology. Besides, I believe that it’s an area which can still suffer big changes and needs the ideas of people from one new generation who see the world from some different point of view and are able to develop it. The movie represents the life taking the things just from life but enriched with the power of the influence. It’s maybe the most perceptible art and gets closer and closer to our minds. It’s a huge social factor. So, I want to be a part of that factor. This is the way I want to transmit my ideas with the purpose of giving some hope and beauty to peoples lives, making the life seems better even just for two hours. I have always looking for the best way of express myself, so I can’t say when I finally realized that the cinema is for me. I think it’s an idea which has been forming inside of me without noticing. Firstly I started painting and everybody saw the talent in me. It was just a hobby and I was too small to think for future plans. After that the theatre festivals in my high school where I’ve always participated gave me a more profound inspiration. I decided to start acting courses which was organized by an actor from my town. Meeting that person and listening the things he was telling to us about the actors play, the cinema and the theatre was for me something so pleasant, so adorable and attracting, that made me desire to be a part of that world which was so untouchable for that moment. But with the years it became closer. Everything that I study now is very interesting and important for me because it makes me feel complete and I’m sure this is the right way for me. What I’m not contained in my university is the not enough time and information I receive from the professors and the big price we pay for the bulgarian standarts. I think the level of education is not high enough and I prefer a place with more serious traditions in film and television studies.
I think the Aberystwyth University is the best place for me to study, because it’s a big education centre which gives the students very good conditions to study, to live and work, to experience new things in a very pleasant ambience. It is known with the high standart of education and with its welcoming atmosphere for the foreign students. I’ve looked the school plan of the program I’ve chosen and I like very much everything that it offers. I’m sure that I’ll feel very comfortable if I became a part of this community and it wouldn’t take a long time for adaptation. I have traveled a lot in the USA and Europe and I have lived two years in Russia, so I’m a person who loves traveling and experiencing the different cultures, taking the best of every situation and opportunity. Well, I feel myself like a citizen of the world.
I believe that studying at Aberystwyth University will be a great honor and I will use all of my skills and possibilities to prove that you would not make a wrong decision accepting me to your community. I think my english is sufficient at this moment and I’ll improve it. I also speak spanish and now I’m learning french. I’m a member of the Organisation of the Bulgarian Scouts for three years and I have participated in many scout camps in Bulgaria and one in Turkey . Scouting is a thing of great importance for my life because it gave me many things as discipline, strength and knowledge how to survive in the wild nature of the human society. I don’t know what will happen after five or ten years, but I know that I want to take my undergraduate education at the Aberystwyth University , after that to receive a master degree in a good film academy as that in London , or in Barcelona . I see my future as a film maker which takes seriously his job dedicating every moment to the realization of his ideas.
Other reason is that I don’t see a great realization for me as a movie maker in my country because the cinema here is something that doesn’t have a big audience and there are many reasons for that. One of them is the bad economic situation which stops the developing of the art and makes the society not interested in such things. I don’t want to say that nobody watches movies, but the truth is that the society is more interested in Hollywood movies and a Bulgarian cinema is almost utopia. There are always opportunities, but to me, I prefer to create art in better conditions and I know the price which doesn’t bothers me – work hard and never give up.
I believe that a person who follows his dreams and knows what he really wants to do is a good person. So my letter to you is a try to change my life in a better way. Thank you for considering my letter. I believe that your decision will be honest.
