Ok, so swan seems to concur:
a measurement (use feet or foot)
How many feet in a mile?
I'm 20 foot tall
That's a 300 foot building
That building is 300 feet high
distance (use feet only)
That's 300 feet away.
Over there, 200 feet from here.
The plane is at 30,000 feet.

Usenet is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea - massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind-boggling amounts of excrement...

You originally want to say that the tree is high, but how high?
So you want to add 'how high', then 'thirty feet' cuts in
between 'is' and 'high.' Am I right?

Mr. Pond i presume?
How high is the tree? The tree is thirty feet high. Would be correct.
Although it should really be.. *we were using high as an example earlier, but tall is better..
How tall is the tree? The tree is thirty feet tall.

A 300 foot building comes from a 300-foot building, which is considered
to be a 300 (x one) foot building. So I learned from my high-school
teacher of English in Japan.

Yep, completely correct. Makes sense too. I think you have the answer to this puzzle.
