'Few' means 'not many'; 'a few' means 'some'; so 'few' is a negative word.
'There are
few
weeks left till Christmas, so I had better start shopping soon!'
'Ther are
a few
weeks left till Christmas, so I have plenty of time to shop.'
Your sentence should read 'a few'.
