It seems unlikely, now that Rooney's injured.
(Though he would probably have managed to get himself sent off at a crucial stage anyway.)

What seems unlikely? The fact that England would be that pathetic to build their game around a single player who isn't even mature enough to be kept on the bench of the national team? I have nothing against Rooney but I don't approve of this favouritism and attention he's getting as the World Cup draws nearer. I think you forget that it's the team that play on the pitch, not an individual player. Is there no substitute for Rooney? He's out and cannot play on top of his game. Even if they somehow manage to fix him, he won't turn up for the game in good form. That's that! It's not physical contition that should be a concern. I don't believe he's prepared mentally. I laughed when I read this, 'Cross your fingers and pray!' That's Steven Gerrard's encouraging in this week's Sun. He meant to say a prayer for Rooney to be fit on time for the forthcoming competition. Botheration, ditto! Working on the team spirit that's what could be a breakthrough in this summer's World Cup for England. Pray Sven (Hello there!) considers it before it's too late. So, all in all, get yourselves ready all the lads in the squad cos we want to have a taste of being the World Cup Champions this year before those Spaniards and Brazilians even conceive the very thought of grabbing at it. We're capable of beating either Spain or Brazil and this summer's great event will be ultimate proof of the truth of my statement, even though the idea of England as a champion seems to appeal to only a few people on this forum so far.
Anonymous, great mood ya hav ther fella!! We're in the same boat!
More grinning, less whining! If not herself, then by the grace of God will England make it.
P.S. Do not be tempted to underestimate your opposition if its name isn't grand. It hurts badly! (Greece, against all the bets on grander rivals won the European Cup without having a considerably tough squad!! Who would have thought?)
