"We live in a world that is full of colors."

"The world is full of dogs and cats."

My English-speaking friends told me that the phrase "filled with" would be better in those two sentences, but I don't understand why.

Can anybody please tell me the difference between the two, "full of" and "filled with"?

  Thank you very much.

Hi,

"We live in a world that is full of colors."

"The world is full of dogs and cats."

My English-speaking friends told me that the phrase "filled with" would be better in those two sentences, but I don't understand why.

Can anybody please tell me the difference between the two, "full of" and "filled with"? I really don't see much difference here at all.

Perhaps 'filled with' focuses more on the action of 'filling', and raises the question of  who did the filling, ie 'filled with (by whom?)'. It might even be seen as hinting at a religious question.

Best wishes, Clive
