Plural for furniture is same as in singular. So:

All the furniture is new.

I answered 'are' instead of 'is' and it was wrong,

Why? Tongue Tied [:S]

You can't count furniture. There is no plural, so 'is' is correct. You can, however, speak of items/pieces of furniture.

Why can't furniture be counted? In Spanish it can be counted. I have a chair, a table, and a couch in my living room for instance. Therefore I have 3 furniture(s) Tongue Tied [:S] Weird eh? Tell me more please

Hi,

I guess in Spanish you can say tres muebles but English is different.

I can count chairs or tables (1 chair, 2 chairs, 3 chairs), but not furniture. I have to say 3 pieces of furniture.

Best wishes, Clive

Hi,

You can't say 3 police or 3 furniture,

but you can 3 police officers or 3 pieces of furniture.

Best wishes, Clive

Ok I was giving wrong details Tongue Tied [:S] Why cant people say the polices are just like the doctors are? Tongue Tied [:S] Someone asked me that though Tongue Tied [:S]

Because 'police' is the name of the whole service, not the job. The people who work for the police service are police officers.

To take your doctor example, it would be like calling doctors 'hospitals'. We say 'call the police' when we need help in the same sense as 'call the hospital'.
