What's the word to start a fuse?

lit it up, set it off..?

And another question: what's the difference between "lit it up" and "light it up"?

Thanks

I'd suggest
Light the fuse / Fire the fuse

"lit" is the Past tense of "light".

How about ignite? Too formal?

I really think I've only hear "light the fuse" -- Google gives about 10k hits for "ignite" but many, many times that number for "light/lit"

Thanks Ant and N2G.

Wow, "lit" is the past tense. I'm lost for words, really I did not know that..what a shame.

And thanks N2G for "ignite", as long as it sounds natural "to ignite the fuse" I don't mind it one way or the other. Does it? Thanks.

Ooops GG, I think we did it again. We sent our messages right about the same time. Thanks for the information about "light/lit" and "ignite".
