Hi!
I was wondering how to pronounce the word "garage", is it more like "espionage" or like "barrage".
Are there differences in that word's pronunciations in America/England, or is there one universal pronounciation?
Thanks a lot in advance

I looked up garage in a dictionary - these are the phonetic notations I could find:
In British English either /'gaera:sh/ and /'gaeridsh/
In American English /gè'ra:sh/. (Always soft 'sh'-sound).

Well, I'm a native English-speaker, and I've always heard the words "espionage" and "barrage" pronounced exactly the same as far as the "age" part goes.
Answering your question, though, "garage" is pronounced like "espionage." The first 'g-' is a hard 'g' sound, and the second is the soft sound you get in "espionage."
I hope that helps.

Depends where you come from in England. In the south is garage tends to be pronounced as in barrage. In much of the north it is pronounced differently - mor like "garridge". But espionage and garage are pronounced pretty much the same both north and south (similar to in French, I guess).

The previous post should, of course, read that "espionage and barrage are pronounced pretty much the same both north and south."

I'd say both are correct. It is just a matter of British and American English. In BrE the stress is usually on the first syllable while in AmE the second.
Hope this helps.
