Personally, I think gecko and lizard are different, though they belong to one family. Gecko can walk on the celling easily, and they like settling beside or inside the houses of humans, in which their food are abundant. And lizard in my impression like walk on the ground, they can run fastly very much that you can not even see clearly. Lizard usually choose their habitat far from human, because they are not capable to catch the fies or mosquitoes droped on the cellings compared with gecko, they eat more insects which were move on the ground. In some regions of china, we called gecko "wall tiger", you will understand immediately why they called like that.
