Hi,

From Wikipedia ([link]):

Geckos are small to average sized lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae which are found in warm climates throughout the world. Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos ...

Geckos or lizards in a house? Surprise That would be extremely uncommon in Western Europe! Out of curiosity, do you mean you keep them as pets or do they just consider houses as comfortable places to live in?

Vincent,

For me it is really hard to answer on the basis of what you posted. They both eat insects.
Geckos are lizards, but not all lizards are geckos.

Cambridge Dictionary

Gecko noun [ C ] plural geckos or geckoes
a small lizard with wide feet, found especially in warm countries

Moreover, different species can be found in different parts of the world.
I post here two pictures, which show a gecko ...

... and a lizard:

These are both pretty common species where I live (they don't live in our houses, though!).
Do they resemble to the ones that live in your area? Do they differ from those you'd call "geckos" and "lizards"?

You might want to have a look to these two pages from Wikipedia: Lizards and Geckos.

Tanit, thank you for the beautiful pictures first.

vincent teo, I think it's gecko according to what you said.

They are alike to the species in China. Personally, I think gecko and lizard are different, though they belong to one family. Gecko can walk on the celling easily, and they like settling beside or inside the houses of humans, in which their food are abundant. And lizard in my impression like walk on the ground, they can run fastly very much that you can not even see clearly. Lizard usually choose their habitat far from human, because they are not capable to catch the fies or mosquitoes droped on the cellings compared with gecko, they eat more insects which were move on the ground.

In some regions of china, we called gecko "wall tiger", you will understand immediately why they called like that. And we called lizard "horse-snake", you can imagine how fast they are running on ground.
