Hi all,

Im writing a piece of paper on English and Polish ggender systems at the moment, its my first serious work, so im quite confused howto do it, thats why i have some questions.

I searched the forums, and found many topics on gender, and some aspects, but i`m actually looking for a description of the english gender system (m/f/neuter) and its specifications. As for google and wiki dont give much (and i have limited net =,=) i`ve decided to post here, if you know some links to such content please post them here.

Im especially interested in animate versus inanimate gender, as i heard that there are exceptions in english that use the animate/inanimate system.

Thx for help Wink [;)]

There is virtually no gender system in English, Reikha. There are the distinguishing singular personal pronouns (he, she, it) and ships are (or were) often referred to as 'she'-- and I think that is about all of our 'system'.  Oh yes, some nouns still reflect sex in their suffixes:  aviatrix, waitress, blonde.

I am sure I have forgotten something and another member will soon be along to advise me of that fact.
