Hi,
- Can I say “Good morning” to someone who wakes up at 2 after midnight? In my experience, people who wake up at such a time don't like to be spoken to at all, they tend to be rather grumpy for a while. Ha-ha.
I guess you could say 'good morning' if the person were starting their day, eg going to catch a plane or going to work on an early factory shift. But ot if they are going to go quickly back to sleep.
- What time of day do we start saying “Good evening”? It depends quite a bit on the context, and on individual custom. Some factors to consider before deciding:
What time is it? (if you want a quick rule of thumb, say it after 6pm. But other factors are also involved.)
Is it getting dark yet?
Are you or the other person starting evening activities?
Have you finished work for the day?
Best wishes, Clive
