Does the "Goth" mean "Van Gogh"?

"Goth" is a style in which people were a lot of black, sometimes black lipstick and a lot of black eyeliner, and tend to have a lot of piercings - not just many piercings in their ears, but in their lips, tongue, eyebrows, etc.

So this bed (which seems like a very silly way to spend a million dollars) would yank their earrings out of all the places they are stuck in.

Well, I am not sure, to put it mildly, that staying in a strong magnetic field as that of the floating bed for too long  promotes health.
Think of mobile phone alerts -- what would the media say should the beds become popular.

Is it Goth because the permanent iron magnet is black?

from the article: If you have friends with piercings, you can’t let them enter the magnetic field between the bed and the floor, because they could find their piercing suddenly tugged toward one of the magnets.

So goths, being known for often having a lot of piercings, could be dragged into the magnetic field!

Although it does say only between the bed and the floor. I suppose you'd need pretty strange friends who wanted to crawl underneath your bed in the first place! I can imagine someone's dog or cat (with a metal name tag) getting stuck to it though...Smile [:)]

The name says it all.

Given the fact all electromagnetic fields are continuous, and can permeate through any media, the electromagnetic force will act upon metal piercings even if you are lying on the bed.
The bed has electromagnetic permeability (nu), more than zero.
There are two sources of electromagnetic field: magnets in the bed and magnets in the floor( not on the floor).
When arranged properly, the interference of their magnetic fields can result in the resultant magnetic field dying down outside the space determined by the floor and the bed.
I am really interested in how they do this.
