Tuesday, October 5, was a very eventful day in our lives! To ensure our clothes matched the fashion of the historical period, most of us dressed in attire characteristic of the late 19th century. For example, Jacob replaced his jeans with black pants tucked in his socks to make them look like hikers. On top he wore a white buttoned shirt. Outdated today, yet very modern in bygone days, his look was finished off with a black vest and suspenders. Sigrid was dressed in a long, white, full skirt and a matching white, lace-embellished top. Kathleen’s head was covered with an old-fashioned hat decorated with artificial flowers. We took on an
indisputable resemblance to many boys and girls of that far away time. However, neither similarities in appearance nor anything else could have prepared us for what we experienced on our field visit to the 1881 School House.
"hikers" is normally people who hike. I imagine you are talking about a type of pants here. I am not familiar with that term.
"resemble in appearance" seems redundant to me.
What I wrote is not necessarily much better. What you had was excellent. I only wrote it a little differently in a few places.
Hope that helped!
