What is the grammitcal difference between the verbs in these two sentences

1. he had walked his dog

2. he had his dog walked

thanks ;-)

The first is the past perfect of the transitive form of the verb "to walk."

The second is the past of the verb "to have" with the meaning of causing to be done. The second could replace "walked" with "groomed" and the primary verb wouldn't change.
