Hi,

I hope someone can help me out here!! Big Smile [:D]

Task: Determine the essential meaning of the bold structures.

Example: 1. I’ve been to New York.

This is the present perfect structure and in this instance it is being used to talk about an experience at an indefinite time in the past.

2. If I hadn’t passed my exam, I wouldn’t have gone to Cancun

3. I’m having my car repaired

4. I wish you wouldn’t smoke so much

5. By this time next year I will have graduated

6. When he arrived at the station, the train had left

Can anyone help me please with determining these grammatical structures, only the bold parts? I have an idea about most of them but just need to be sure?

Thank you in advance! Wink [;)]

I wouldn't venture to correct any of them.  They seem fine.

Niamh, please post your own descriptions of the grammatical structures involved in each sentence, and we will check your accuracy.

Could it be possible just using bold and italic for emphasizing? Those strong colours are like needles to the eyes, don't you think? (at least for my eyes) I'd like to know if anyone else has the same problem, maybe it's just me Crying [:'(]

I agree, Latin-- but actually this case is not too garish, compared with others I have seen.

Philip,
I don't think Niamh wants us to correct them.
He just wants to know the meaning. Wink [;)]
