We have to grease/oil the machine to keep it working well.

Do both grease and oil fit in the above and mean about the same? Thanks.

 Yes. Also you can use "lubricate" which is more general.

Grease is very thick and viscous, and oil is light and fluid. You would not use one substance to do the job of the other!
