What was the greatest band of the '90s in your opinion? I can't make a choice myself but would consider these bands to all be in the running...

Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
R.E.M.
Oasis
Pearl Jam
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Radiohead
Weezer
U2
Dave Matthews Band
Nine Inch Nails
Foo Fighters
Stone Temple Pilots

Just my personal opinions:

R.E.M. ] Too restrained and querulous?

Oasis ] A sad falling-off after Definitely Maybe.

Radiohead ] Maybe musically, almost...but do the words live up to the music?

U2 ] I hope not.

Nirvana ] get my vote.

Let it be Depeche Mode having made the real musical revolution in the '90s!!!

Nirvana, Blur, Oasis, and Depeche Mode too. My vote goes to Nirvana – no surprises from me. I wonder how a 3-piece band got that full sound and power. I can’t resist mentioning my other favourite 3-piece ensemble, the Police (but from a different decade of course).

Weezer, all the way! I've always loved Weezer, although the Dave Matthews Band is really good too.

best wishes,

Definately Oasis.  They win by any measure.   Fastest selling album, most record sales, biggest concert in European history, influenced tons of other bands.  They are the greatest band since the Beatles.

One decent record (Definitely Maybe).

Then ten years of garbage.

I think most music critics would side with Nirvana on this one.
As far as leaving a mark on music, I guess I'd have to agree.
