You get it from someone, and the person who is (or people who are) the source "gives" intentionally. But "give" is perhaps not the best choice of words. Wink [;)]

Is it associated with illness? - No

Is it a collective noun or is it in plural form? - It is collective. Though the letter S is never added to the end of this word, you'll find the an S at the beginning. Wink [;)]

Bill ?? - That's a good guess, but no, the word is not bill.  All four of the letters are different.

The handbag clue still has me wondering.

OK.  A new word?  Lessee.... Aha!--

Ten (10) letters, the first of which is E:    E  __  __  __  __  __  __  __  __  __ .

This is an easy one, no tricks.  A physical object.

Hi MM
What I had in mind when I mentioned modification (when asked whether it would fit in a handbag) was printed copies of whatever spam one might have received (or whatever you might copy spam onto) -- and fitting that into a handbag would depend on the number of pages required to print all of the spam and probably on the size of the handbag as well.  I really didn't know how to answer that question.  I suppose I should have just said "No". Wink [;)]

Now, on to your new word:

Is it a compound noun?
Is it animal, mineral or vegetable?
