Is it sausage?

Yes! It's food. But Amy was quicker with the guess... it's sausage! You win... Smile [:)]

If you don't have a sense of humor already, it's about time you buy one.

Is that because of a American spelling vs. British spelling? or vs. our?

Is it a noun?

I don't think it's a BE-AmE thing.  I think it just has two possible spellings.  I think the seven-letter version is the more common one.

Yes, it's a noun.

It is not something that you can touch, taste or smell if that's what you want to know.
I'd say that some of these are way more abstract than others, though. lol
