I've never heard it, and it's not in the on-line dictionaries.

Yeah, didn't think it's not common...

1. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=smurgle
2. http://daveola.com/Zoo/Cat_Codes.html (search for "smurgle")
3. http://www.taglinesgalore.com/tags/c.html (...)
4. http://www.angelfire.com/mt/yowie/pages/customs.htm:
«When the cat "kneads" with its paws and suckles at something, it is considered smurgling. Smurgling may be a sign that the cat was not weaned properly»

If I am lucky and get another chance to propose a word, that'll be a common word present in every dictionary.

Not very reputable sites, Ant.  The Urban Dictionary is a well-known garbage site, and other definitions at your last reference include:

Meowmie: A Cat's human "mother"; a cat's primary female slave. Compare "Paw".

I suggest you avoid such sites in the normal search for definitions.

You're so right, Mr. Micawber! I found the word on the catcodes (actually I had been searching for the LaTeX catcodes :) page written by a British guy and didn't even suspect it is so rare/slangish...

...So how do we "lengthen" this thread? Would somebody propose another word?

Why don't you propose another word, perhaps a bit more mainstream. One you can find in www.m-w.com

And can we safely assume that it is a five-letter word?

Hello, Yankee and Tanit!

«And can we safely assume that it is a five-letter word?»
This time, yes. And it's a noun.
