I have to buy a new pair of shoes for gym class.

Hi,

What does "gym class" refer to? I don't think it's the same with PE class, right? Besides, why is it necessary to buy a new pair of shoes for gym class?

Yes, it is the same.

Shoes wear out and new ones are needed at intervals, at least in my country.
