What was good about for John about the movie was as if  he had been through that kind of situation as the protagonist did.

Is the above sentence correct?

Thank you

No. Lots of errors (highlighted for you here). I'm not even sure what you are trying to say. Have another go Smile [:)]

Can I say:

What was good about the movie for John was as if  he had been through some situations, which the protagonist went through.

Is the above sentence correct?

Thank you

What was good about the movie for John was- yes much better

The second part depends on your meaning.

If he had just got very caught up in the movie and felt as though he were there in the story

..that he felt as if he'd had been going through it all with the protagonist. (He felt as if he were right in the movie?)

If in reality he had been through those situations that the protagonist went through.

that he had been through some of the situations that the protagonist went through.
