how do you express 50% of something. say, 50% of one apple.
"a half apple"?
"half of one apple"?
"a half piece of one apple"?
"one half piece of an apple"?
"one half piece of one apple"?

Agreed, but what about the plural? If you cut two apples in half you have four half-apples.

I think I'd say "four halves of an apple" (even though there are actually 2 apples).
