hanging (down)

For example, reporters assigned to the Prime Minister are waiting for the PM to come out of his office or some place so that they may get some comments on some topic(s) from the PM. This kind of occasional interview seems to be called BURASAGARI in Japanese, literally 'hanging down'. It is said to be so called because the reporters look as if they were physically hanging on the PM. It is not an official press conference. I wonder what is the English term for that. Doorstepping?

Thank you.

Hi,

Do you mean they are crowded tightly around the PM? In Canada, we have recently started calling that 'a scrum.'

This word is derived from the sport of rugby, where it refers to the action in which all the players crowd tightly together around the ball.

Best wishes, Clive

Oh, I see. Thank you very much. Could I have some sample sentences using 'scrum', if I may ask? Thanks.

Hi,

The rugby player broke his nose in the scrum.

In the scrum outside his office, the PM told reporters he was going to raise taxes.

Best wishes, Clive
