Reason, logic and public support can be better backing of a statement than military force itself.

Well the problem is that there is one nation that pretends always to be right, and agrees only when the outcome of the UN council is what they want. If not then they want to go on their own.  So, in our world we have a UN and a US. No nation should pretend to be above the UN, just because it can go on its own. That is called a "bully" (or bushy).

the thing is that the un can only "prevent war" if both sides agree to let them in it is not their fault that they are innefective but the fault of the governments for not being flexible to their ideas. this is why some reforms need to be taken to create a more powerful and effective institution in the UN

The UN sucks bigtime! It is just an instrument of the greedy banks. It was set up by the 'capitalists' in New York! Read your history books! The same people who cry "free trade". Free for who? Free for them to keep ripping us all off!
If you thought the behaviour of the US military was bad, wait a couple of years, and watch the UN thugs at work when there will be noone to stop them!

In my opinion, the right question is:Has the UN ever been effective in controlling wars?.. Indifferent [:|]

I believe that the un has an essential role to play in the middle east by giving israel the legal coverage to kill innocent people,so no one would be able to sue it.
