I was watching the movie the Birdcage.


There is a part in which a girl informs her father of her decision that she wants to get married with her boyfriend.



Daughter: ... We've been sleeping together for a year.
    Father: Oh, God! Has he been tested?

What does his father's reply mean?

I can only guess.  It probably has to do with being tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), maybe even for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.  I don't know for sure.
