Isaac Newton was an excellent scientist. His contributions to the French Revolution were his work and his thought processes – he made no physical contribution to the French Revolution, for his body had been long defunct.
[Isaac Newton died in 1727. How could he have made any physical contribution? -Matt] But with many of his great calculations, Isaac Newton changed the way in which people understood many things about the universe. Newton was able to change the way people think, and dissuaded people from using religion or superstition to explain everything. This includes justifying the absolute monarch's position, and all others that could not be prove except religion.
[What does that sentence mean?] People started to understand the universe and learned about Newton’s theory on universal gravitation, theory about the nature of light, and three laws of motion. With his theories, he had cleared many unanswered questions that could previously only be explained by religious beliefs. With all the laws Newton made, religion was not as imperative because Newton was able to prove facts empirically. By changing the way people thought, he had also encouraged people to rebel against the king which was the reason to French Revolution.
Isaac Newton was part of the Enlightenment Movement which was a major cause of the French Revolution. The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that was influential in 18th century Europe. Strongly influenced by developments in modern science and by the aftermath of the long religious disagreement that followed the Reformation, the thinkers of the Enlightenment were committed to materialistic views based on reason or human understanding only, which they hoped would provide a basis for good changes affecting every area of life and thought. Back in the Middle Ages, people often did not understand the causes of events they experienced; events were often attributed to Divine Intervention, superstition, witchcraft or mysterious forces. By being the Enlightenment had changed the way how Enlightenment would be, which also changed the way people think about the Enlightenment.
[That sentence is unintelligible.] The Enlightenment influenced the middle class, which was a big part of French Revolution, by changing the way the middle class think, resulting in French Revolution. The enlightenment showed that there is need for more individual rights, and the middle class revolted against the king for extra freedom. The Enlightenment was one of the main causes of the French Revolution because it was able to change how the way people think. Isaac Newton mainly did not have any physical contribution to the French Revolution, because he died before the French Revolution happened, but he changed the way a lot of people think. By changing the way the middle classes think, he made them revolt against the king for independence. Also, by acknowledging scientific thinking about the universe he helped people explain phenomena scientifically rather than religiously. So Newton did not contribute directly to the French Revolution, but he contributed indirectly by making a difference to peoples’ thought processes.
