Hello all,
Just looking for a little help with writing a letter to the dean of my college. Here is a little background of my situation:
I'm a senior who is graduating this semester. I only needed 11 hours to graduate, but to maintain full time status i signed up for a grad level class, plus I was doing graduate research. I couldn't register into the grad research class until i found an advisor, which is the main reason i signed up for the grad class (just to fill up hours until i find an advisor). My intent was to drop this class after I found an advisor, but I wasn't able to until after the deadline to drop. Now i've been asked by my department advisor to write a letter to the dean of my college outlining my situation and my request. Here is what I have so far:
__
Dear Dr. Frink,
This letter is to request permission to drop a course and to add a course to my schedule. At the beginning of the semester I was actively engaged in graduate research for the EcoCAR Challenge project and had since been looking for a professor to advise my research. I also enrolled in MAE505 in order to maintain full-time status as an undergraduate and also to test the waters to see what the class was like. I decided that this would be too many classes for me this semester and I decided to drop MAE505, but I was unable to as I was enrolled in only 14 hours. In the meantime, I had been asking professors to advise my research, but I was not able to find one before the last day to drop. Dr. Nick has now agreed to advise my research for this semester and I would like to be added to his section of MAE586 (Graduate Research) and now that I have enough hours to maintain full time status I would like to be removed from MAE505.
Thanks,
Bart Smithers
